Simmo plays full 90 in giant-killing

Congratulations to SEFA Scholar Aaron Simpson who played in Maidstone United’s 2-1 win against Stevenage in the FA Cup First Round.

Simmo played the full ninety minutes at right back as the Ryman Premier Stones knocked out League Two Stevenage in front of a raucous crowd at the Gallagher Stadium.

Aaron, currently a second year Scholar at our Maplesden Noakes centre, impressed in front of a capacity crowd and the BT Sport cameras which broadcast the game live across the country.

The 17-year-old also drew praise from the BT Sports commentators who said: “All credit to the young lad in the biggest game of his life.

“He’s put in a good performance tonight, going forward he has done very, very well and has got into good areas and defensively he has been sound as well.”

Simmo lined up against the lively winger Rory Deacon – and kept the former Arsenal professional in check throughout the game.

A very proud Lee Spiller, who coaches Aaron daily at our Maplesden Noakes Scholarship, said: “This is exactly why myself and Tony Browne set up Soccer Elite FA nearly ten years ago.

“Players moving through our Academy tiers and then into first teams at a high level is the ultimate aim of our setup.

“It was an absolute joy see Simmo excelling in a televised FA Cup first round tie and upsetting a Football League team.

“However it is not a surprise to me as Aaron is someone who has worked incredibly hard, listening and taking on board the coaching by myself and Andy Hessenthaler, taken advantage of the Herbalife nutritional supplements and excelled in our professional fixtures against the like of Southampton and Leeds.

“I genuinely think this is just the start for Simmo and I am incredibly excited to follow his progress over the coming months.”
