SEFA will take five teams, two at Under 7 and three at Under 8, to the Reds’ Kirkby Academy on Saturday 7 March.

Liverpool3It will be the third year running that we have taken teams to face Liverpool as our excellent relationship with one of Europe’s most famous clubs continues to thrive.

“It is great to once again be invited to face Liverpool and it is a testament to the quality we have in our Academy that they want us to bring up five teams” said SEFA Director Tony Browne.

“We have travelled to Liverpool twice in the last two years and have done superbly both times – especially last year where along with Liverpool our young stars took on the likes of Aston Villa and Blackpool.”

Indeed last year SEFA’s Under 8s took part in a Champions League-style tournament and were drawn in the group stages against Liverpool, Villa and Blackpool.

Liverpool6After a tentative start in their first game against Blackpool, SEFA then went on to shock Villa and the hosts to storm their way into the quarter finals.

Facing a different Liverpool side in the last eight, SEFA pulled off yet another upset before valiantly bowing out at the semi final stage against another Liverpool team.

“The players who get invited to this trip really will have memories to last a lifetime” added Tony. “The Kirkby Academy is a superb facility, one befitting of a club of Liverpool’s stature, and the players will feel right at home playing on a top 3G surface similar to those at our Academy centres.

Liverpool15“Our Under 7s and Under 8s at both Maplesden Noakes and Swadelands have made massive strides this year and they are both very exciting groups with bags of potential. These players have superb attitudes, an infectious love for the game a real desire to develop their game understanding and improve their technique.

“They are now getting their reward for their hard work, and will no doubt be excitedly counting down the day to this superb event which once again asserts SEFA as the place to be for the stars of the future.”
