Soccer Elite FA are delighted and excited to welcome Gillingham legend Steve Butler to our coaching staff.

Steve will be best remembered by Gillingham fans for his heroics in the 2000 play off final against Wigan where he scored the equaliser before Andy Thompson dramatically scored the winner to send the Gills into The Championship for the first ever time.

We caught up with Steve before he steps onto he field at Maplesden Noakes tonight. “Spills was my apprentice at Gillingham as a scholar, he used to clean my boots. I always knew about Soccer Elite as i’m local to Maidstone and have keenly come down to watch a few sessions of the years. I knew Hessy was working with the scholars before he stepped back into the pro game with Leyton Orient so I knew it was a very professional setup.”

Steve will be a familiar face to some of the SEFA players as he’s been working with Tunbridge Wells U16’s after previously working in the Premier League with Leicester City with Peter Taylor.

Steve continued to praise the SEFA set up – “All the kids were enjoying it when I popped down last Friday and the coaches were all doing a fantastic job. It’s tough to get that amount of  players on a pitch so the organisation and the quality of the players and the sessions were very good”

Steve will be working with our Year 5’s and Year 11’s at Maplesden Noakes tonight.
