Since the introduction of SEFA Goalkeeper Academy in 2008, in excess of 150+ players have experienced our unique approach to developing the art of goalkeeping. As with any specialised position, the techniques & requirements of the role necessitate the need for bespoke development delivered by professional coaches.

Dean Ruddy, Goalkeeper Academy Head Coach, brings a wealth of professional playing experience to the creation & design of the programmes on offer. Working in partnership with current professional & ex professional goalkeepers, the relevance & quality of each session is guaranteed.

 

SEFA goalkeepers will have the opportunity to participate in exciting, high tempo, structured drills specifically designed to the keeper’s age and ability level. Topics that will be covered throughout the season are:

Development Centre:

 

A perfect start for goalkeepers looking to develop their skills in a fun, exciting and structured environment. Keepers will work on all the basic skills needed in order to progress to a higher level of goalkeeping. Keepers will also have the opportunity to be involved in games where they can put what they have learned into action.

 

Advanced Academy:

 

A specific program has been designed for Advanced Goalkeepers who have consistently performed during Development Centre sessions, been identified & selected from a SEFA Soccer School or have impressed one of our circulating scouts playing for their local team.

 

The aim of these sessions is to produce goalkeepers of a professional academy standard. The intensity of work on each topic will vary depending on the age of the keeper. Keepers will train with players of the same ability maximising their progression, success and overall development.

 

Sessions run along side the SEFA Advanced outfield player training so keepers will regularly take part in shooting drills and small-sided matches to improve on their overall game skills and awareness. Goalkeepers who impress will be chosen to represent SEFA in friendly matches against a variety of opposition , including teams from professional academies, representative sides & top performing sides from local leagues.
